About Suzanne O’Brien

Suzanne O'BrienExercise has always been an important part of my life. Whether playing sports, or going to the gym, I always valued the benefits that exercise brought me. Being physically fit made me feel strong, heave more energy, and relieved the stress of everyday living.

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child I knew that a regular routine of eating healthy and exercise would be the best thing to do for me and my baby. I was amazed at how wonderful I felt during my entire pregnancy. I have spoken with countless women who say that they felt awful while they were pregnant. Many said that they were tired all the time and were generally uncomfortable.

When my friends would be expecting, I would always sit down with them in the beginning and layout a healthy pregnancy plan. This routine would involve exercises such as walking, using light weights, as well as educating them on better food choices, such as substituting complex carbohydrates for simple ones. Each one of them actually “enjoyed” their pregnancies more, and the best part was they regained their pre-pregnancy bodies quickly.

I know that I wanted to make healthy and fitness my occupation, so in 1998 I went back to school to study nutrition and nursing. I always knew that the best medicine was the preventative kind, but nothing confirmed this more than when I took care of a postmenopausal woman who fractured her hip due to poor bone density; or when a patient with type II diabetes is having another toe amputation due to an infection that cannot be reversed due to poor blood sugar control.

It was at this time that I knew people needed to be educated better on how to prevent chronic illness. The answer was simple, a lifestyle change for the better involving exercise and nutrition.

In 2004 I decided to learn everything I could about the benefits of exercise and became a Certified Personal Trainer and Aerobics Instructor through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

To put my knowledge of nutrition, disease prevention, and exercise all together, I wrote the book Take Charge of Your Health. This is a wonderful guide on how to live a full, healthy life. It is easy to follow and has easy to follow exercise and eating plans. The book also explains in simple terms how osteoporosis, diabetes, and heart disease form, and how by eating the right foods and exercising, these chronic illnesses can be prevented and controlled.
